Nelson Roscoe ‘Rocky’ Laraway

Nelson Roscoe “Rocky” Laraway, 93, of Hanover passed away at 6:15 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at Hanover Health and Rehabilitation Campus.

Born Jan. 6, 1922, in Jackson County, he was the son of George and Ethel L. Bell Laraway, both of whom preceded him in death. On Aug. 2, 1942, he married Betty Franklin, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 30, 2000, at Kent Christian Church, he was married to Neva June Anderson Lee by Brother Doug Lee. She survives in Hanover.

He lived in the Seymour area for most of his life and attended school there. He had worked at the shirt factory in Seymour, farmed, drove a taxi in Seymour and worked for Griffin’s as a truck driver. He retired from the Panasote factory in Scottsburg. He had lived in Hanover since 2000 and was a member of Hanover Baptist Church. Rocky enjoyed fishing, playing his guitar and bird and squirrel watching.

Other survivors include four sons, Roger Laraway and Roscoe David “Rock” Laraway, both of Seymour, Richard Laraway of Bloomington and James Darren Trowbridge of Alpena, Arkansas; a stepdaughter, Glenda Jo Lee Spray of Hanover; a stepson, Brother Doug (Ellie) Lee of Deputy; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren; a stepgreat-great-grandson; sister, Doris Ayers of Brownstown; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Besides his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Daniel Laraway, who died Dec. 7, 2000; brothers, James and Eldon Laraway; sisters, Delores Davidson, Edith Carter and Lois Edwards; and a stepson-in-law, Edwin Dee Spray, who died Jan. 4, 2009.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Morgan and Nay Funeral Centre in Madison with the Rev. J.D. Traylor.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Monday.

Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery in Brownstown.

Memorials may be made to Miller House Activity Fund or Hanover Baptist Church.
