Cougars fall to South Ripley in semis

LAWRENCEBURG

The Trinity Lutheran girls soccer team ended their season with a 4-1 loss to South Ripley in the semifinals of the Lawrenceburg Sectional on Thursday.

Down 3-0 at half, Cougars sophomore Maddie Roark notched a goal off a penalty kick to narrow the deficit.

However, the Cougars conceded one more goal and not put another in the back of the net the rest of the way.

South out-shot the Cougars 18-6, and Hailley Peters collected three saves.

The Cougars finished their inaugural season at 8-8.

“We exceeded expectations,” Cougars coach Jeff Nolting said. “I expected us to be here though. Tonight, we were pretty one-dimensional. South Ripley did a pretty good job of defending. We were a little nervous to start the game and they got one early and two of the goals were misplaced.

Seniors Andrea Foster and Sabrina Vierling will graduate from the program.

“It’s been a great season and learning experience for the girls,” Nolting said. “I think they hated to see the season come to an end, but we look forward to playing again next year.”
