William E. “Bill” Schroer, 60, of Columbus, passed from this life at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, as the result of an automobile accident in Bartholomew County.

Born Dec. 28, 1954, in Columbus, he was the son of Charles E. Schroer, who preceded him in death, and Vivian E. Pearson Schroer. He married Debra S. Ferree on July 12, 1986.

A 1972 graduate of Columbus High School, Bill received a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1984. He was a U.S. Navy veteran being stationed in San Diego, Hawaii and Mississippi. He was honorably discharged Nov. 28, 1981. He was a mechanical engineer working for Boeing in Seattle, Cummins Engine Co., and most recently at MACTAC.

He was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at White Creek and was a current member of Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus. Bill had a passion of tinkering with automobiles, and he enjoyed building a P-51 replica. He also enjoyed all types of history.

Beside his wife, Debra, of Columbus; mother, Vivian Schroer of Columbus; children, Leah London, Hannah Schroer, and Zach Schroer all of Columbus; and a brother, Robert (Karen) Schroer of Seymour.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed and Lorene Schroer and William and Goldean Pearson.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 4205 Jonathan Moore Pike, Columbus, with Pastor John W. Armstrong officiating.

Family and friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday.

Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery at White Creek. Full military rites will be presented by the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Unit and Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Bartholomew County Humane Society.
