What is your workout schedule?

“CrossFit two to three times per week, a run on weekends and any outdoor sports/activities with my son.”

What is your favorite workout to do and why?

“CrossFit is an hour class that encompasses mobility, strength training and endurance. I love how I feel after a good workout at the gym and how much more strength and endurance I have that I didn’t realize I could achieve.”

Where do you work out, and what do you like about that place?

“812 CrossFit in Columbus. Amazing group of athletes, atmosphere and coaches. Our trainer and owner of the gym, Nicole Holcomb, finished 15th in the world for the women’s division at the CrossFit Games. It’s such an amazing feat in itself.”

What do you eat or avoid eating to be healthy?

“I follow the 80/20 rule for now. If 80 percent of my day is healthy choices, I don’t feel too bad. I try to avoid bread, fast food, etc. It gets tough, but as long as I don’t eat bad all three meals, I’m OK with it. I will get more strict with my diet over the next couple of months. It’s amazing how much better you feel just by eating the right foods.”

What are your fitness goals?

“Fitness goals are to run a half-marathon in the next six to nine months and beat my time from my first half. I also want to compete in a second CrossFit competition.”

What are some fitness goals that you have achieved that you’re proud of?

“I competed for the first time this year at a CrossFit competition and placed second in the scaled division with my partner out of 36 teams. That was so motivating. Our goal next year is to go RX (as prescribed) and see how we place. I also ran my first half-marathon two years ago and beat my goal time by 11 minutes.”

Are you currently training for any type of event, such as a marathon, triathlon, etc.? If so, what does your training or routine involve?

“I’m not currently training for a particular event right now, but diet is key and consistent training to avoid injuries. My goal is to run the Kentucky Derby half-marathon in May, and I may sign up to run in November in the Indianapolis Monumental Half if I can get some longer runs in the next few weeks. I also want to sign up to participate in any fun 5K runs that come up over the next few months with my son. He loves running, also.”

How does exercising make you feel?

“After a good workout, you just feel a huge relief. I feel sluggish when I haven’t been to the gym in a few days.”

What is your advice to encourage others to exercise?

“If you feel tired and don’t think you can do much at the gym on a given day, just drive there and get to the parking lot. The hardest part sometimes is forcing yourself to show up. Also, you don’t have to have a gym membership to be active and healthy. There are so many exercises you can do at home, with friends and without equipment. Once you get a good hour of exercise, you will feel so much better.”
