Volunteer of Distinction named

B. LaVonne Borges of Greenwood recently was recognized as the Appraisal Institute’s October “Volunteer of Distinction” for Region V.

Borges is co-owner of Borges and Borges Real Estate Advisers in Seymour and has worked in the valuation profession for 38 years. She has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and urban land and a master’s degree in business administration.

The institute is the professional association of real estate appraisers. Borges is a member of the Hoosier State chapter.

Borges served the Hoosier State chapter as president in 2006, vice president in 2005, education committee chairwoman in 2005-06, secretary, treasurer and finance committee chairwoman in 2004 and regional representative in 1998, 2000-01 and 2007-08. She assists in establishing scholarship programs for the Hoosier State chapter and Region V and for other chapters and regions.

From 2010 to 2012, Borges was chairwoman of the national diversity committee. She also served as a committee member from 2002 to 2004 and a member at-large in 2005. She received her senior residential appraiser designation in 1994.

Borges’ volunteer experience includes being an officer and board member of Mothers of Twins Club, an organizer of the Seymour Oktoberfest baby contest, chairwoman of the March of Dimes donation drive and chairwoman of the publications committee for the Greater Seymour Chamber of Commerce. She has spent numerous years on the PTA and as a Brownies leader and school chaperone.
