Biannual inspection of State Road 46’s cable stay bridge over the East Fork White River will require lane closures next week at Columbus.

Bridge inspectors plan to be onsite Tuesday working from man-lifts located in the right through lane and the right turn lane of the eastbound State Road 46 structure. All traffic will be diverted to the center and left through lanes.

On Wednesday, inspections are scheduled from the center and left through lanes. Motorists will be routed across the 400-foot signature orange structure via the right through lane and right turn lane.

The inspection will include detailed examinations of the substructure, superstructure and driving surface.

Each day’s inspections will be conducted between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Inclement weather could push back the daily inspections.

The Indiana Department of Transportation will set orange construction barrels and arrow boards to direct traffic flow.
