Former Owl ears 3rd weekly college honor

Western Kentucky University sophomore Jessica Lucas of Seymour took home her third Conference USA Setter of the Week honor Monday afternoon as announced by the conference office.

The honor marks the fifth time the setter has taken home the award on her career.

Lucas led WKU (21­2, 8­0 C­USA) to a 2­-0 record on the weekend as the Toppers stayed on top of the conference standings and upped its current winning streak to 15-matches after sweeping Charlotte and outlasting North Texas in five sets.

In WKU’s sweep of Charlotte, Lucas led the team with 43 assists as the Toppers finished with a .246 hitting percentage.

She also added five digs, a pair of kills and three total blocks.

Against North Texas, Lucas tallied a career­-high of 56 assists to go along with 11 digs and a pair of blocks.

In total, Lucas recorded 99 total assists, 16 digs and four kills.

Her double­-double against the Mean Green was Lucas’ team­-best 11th on the year.

Lucas leads C­USA and ranks 34th nationally with an average of 11.02 assists per set.

She is currently second in the conference and 14th nationally with 904 total assists on the year.

For her career, Lucas ranks eighth in program history with 2,242 total assists.
