Arts center plans oil painting workshop

Southern Indiana Center for the Arts is hosting a two-day oil painting workshop Friday and Saturday.

The workshop will be taught by Sherry Crouse of La Grange, Kentucky. She has been painting for about 20 years and is a Dorothy Dent certified instructor.

Believing you can learn something from every workshop you attend and incorporate it into your style of painting, Crouse also has taken many workshops with artists such as Hedi Moran, Elizabeth Robbins, Qiang Huang, Robert Warren, Gary Jenkins and more.

Class time is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The arts center will open at 8 a.m. for students to get their place set up and ready to paint. Painting should begin promptly at 9 a.m. in order to finish by the end of the day.

Paintings selected will cover a broad spectrum of things to learn about oil painting. Students will need to bring oil paint brushes, a palette knife, a brown bag lunch and a willingness to learn. Crouse will have reduced-price brushes available for those who need to purchase new brushes.

Students should have had some use of oil paints prior to the class but don’t need to be a proficient oil painter. The arts center will provide paper towels, palette paper, water and soft drinks.

Cost for the two-day workshop is $175, which includes odorless turpentine and painting medium as well as oil paint, an easel for each student’s use during the class, the canvas and instruction. SICA members will receive a 20 percent discount. You can become a SICA member for as little as $25 a year.

Preregistration and prepayment are required no later than Wednesday. Call 812-522-2278 or email [email protected].
