Dr. Harry R. Baxter, 92, of Brownstown, passed away at 7:25 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, with his wife and family at his side.

Born May 18, 1924, in Ashland, Ohio, he was the son of Griffith John and Ada Keis Baxter. On July 7, 1947, he married Florence C. Dale, who preceded him in death. He then married Judy K. Day Aug. 17, 1986. They loved to travel and had visited all 50 states and several foreign countries.

He graduated from Ashland High School in 1942; Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland in 1943; U.S. Navy Reserve in 1943; and Texas Christian University in 1944 where he played as guard in the 1945 Cotton Bowl against Oklahoma State. He was a naval officer at Fort Schyler, New York, and served in Okinawa in 1945. Dr. Baxter attended Ashland College 1946-48 and then graduated from Down State Medical Center, Brooklyn, N.Y. He began practicing medicine in 1953 joining practice with Mark Bevers in 1976 and Rosemary Weir in 1977 before retiring in 1989.

Other survivors include his children, Robert D. Baxter and Ellen D. Baxter; stepchildren, Michael S. Day and Tammy Etheridge; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sibling, August C. Baxter.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Nov. 14, 2015, at Honeytown Christian Church, 480 E. County Road 300N, Seymour.

Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until time of service at the church.

Arrangements handled by Woodlawn Family Funeral Centre.
