A fish fry to benefit the Joe Jackson Hotel restoration project will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Whistle Stop, 2379 S. Main St., Vallonia.

Fish dinners will be available for $6.50, and sandwiches are $4.50. Desserts, including homemade pies, are $1.50.

The hotel will be open, and shoppers can check for bargains in the country store. Also, orders are being taken for fruit, oranges and grapefruit for another fundraiser to cover costs of renovating the building.

Proceeds will benefit the restoration of the hotel at 2420 S. Main St. The hotel, owned by the Fort Vallonia Days Association, was built in 1914 and is listed on the federal and state registers of historic places.

Restoration work to date includes a new roof, new façade, framing the interior and new wiring. The next step is installation of a septic system.

Fish fries are conducted on the second Saturday of each month during the warm-weather months.
