Charles Edwin Burgess, 80, of Brownstown died at 1:25 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at his residence.

Born March 7, 1935, in Orleans, he was the son of Merrill Burgess and Lucille Velcin Burgess, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married to Mary Ann Harlow Burgess, who survives.

He was an electrician for 20 years. He also worked several years as a physical plant director at Finneytown Public Schools in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Brownstown and belonged to the Currier and Ives Dinnerware Collectors Club. He loved antiques and working outdoors.

Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Mark Burgess, Nacogdoches, Texas, and Andrew Schoenherr of Brownstown; an adopted son, Randall Tomes of Noblesville; four daughters, Cynthia Burgess Draper of Walla Walla, Washington, Sherill Grotheer of Las Vegas, Nevada, Julie Schoster of Aurora and Beth Ann Schoenherr White of Brownstown; several grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, William Burgess of Seymour; and two sisters, Barbara Sorrells and Marilyn Sadek, both of Bedford.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Burgess.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 28 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Brownstown with Pastor Jeffrey Patterson officiating

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Burial will be at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Brownstown.

Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran High School music department, Schneck Medical Center Hospice or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Arrangements were handled by Zabel Funeral Home in Brownstown.
