What is your workout schedule?

“I lift weights, high-intensity interval training three days a week, and I run three to four days a week.”

What is your favorite workout to do and why?

“My favorite workout is a combination of intense cardio and weights. I feel like I have worked my entire body to exhaustion, and I love how strong that makes me feel.”

Where do you work out, and what do you like about that place?

“I go to a personal trainer two days a week. The other days, I work out at my home. I like how my trainer pushes me to do things I wouldn’t try or think I could do on my own.”

What do you eat or avoid eating to be healthy?

“I eat lean meats — fish, chicken, pork and turkey. I also eat healthy fats, such as nuts, avocados, eggs and olive oil, and of course a lot of fruits and vegetables. I try to avoid sugar, white bread, pasta, potatoes and anything fried.”

What are your fitness goals?

“I would like to run a half-marathon in every state.”

What are some fitness goals that you have achieved that you’re proud of?

“I lost 85 pounds and kept it off for over seven years now. I have run a full marathon and 20 half-marathons in 11 states.”

Are you currently training for any type of event, such as a marathon, triathlon, etc.? If so, what does your training or routine involve?

“I am running a half-marathon next month. I stay trained up by doing my daily workouts and long runs on Saturday mornings. Monday, Wednesday and Fridays are strength training days. The other days, I work on my speed and endurance by doing sprints, inclines and long runs.”

How does exercising make you feel?

“Exercising makes me feel healthy, happy, strong, energized and confident.”

What is your advice to encourage others to exercise?

“Start out slow, and don’t get discouraged. Progress is progress no matter how small, just don’t stop. Make it a part of your daily routine, just as showering and brushing your teeth. You will love seeing how good it makes you feel along with all of the other great health benefits. Find what works for you, and love what you do.”
