South ends Owls’ streak

BLOOMINGTON

The Bloomington South girls jumped on top of Seymour 10-0 in the first period and handed the Owls their first loss of the season 58-43 Tuesday night.

Lauren James made a 3-point shot to cut South’s lead to 10-3 midway through the opening quarter, but the Panthers held an 18-6 lead after the first period, a 26-13 lead at the half and a 34-26 lead going into the fourth period.

South made five 3-point baskets in the first half and six for the game, while the Owls shot 4-for-16 on 3-pointers for the night.

South shot 31 free throws in the fourth quarter and were 27-for-41 for the game, while the Owls were 13-for-15 at the line.

James topped the Owls in scoring with 15 points and led her team in rebounds with 5.

The Owls are 7-1 and will travel to Brownstown Central on Thursday night.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

Owls fall to Red Devils

JEFFERSONVILLE

The Seymour girls swimming and diving team fell 124-61, and the boys dropped their dual 124-56 at Jeffersonville on Tuesday.

On the girls side, Katie Turner placed first in the backstroke timing 1:05.61 and second in the 50 freestyle at 26.61.

The 200 medley relay saw Turner, Alexis Anders, Sarah Montgomery and Kenzie Persinger earned first, clocking 1:58.43.

Owls senior Noah Bullard placed first in the 200 individual medley for the boys in 2:12.20.

In the diving well, Devin Ramsey scored a meet-high 167.50 to garner top honors.

The Owls will host Columbus North on Thursday for their home opener.
