Hazel Laverne Beikman, 102, a resident of Four Seasons Retirement Center in Columbus, passed from this life at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Born Nov. 1, 1913, in Jonesville, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary Bingham Hubbard. On March 17, 1937, he married Virgil William Beikman, who preceded her in death in May 1979.

Hazel was a homemaker and had been a sales associate at the former Yula’s Young World. It was said that her grandchildren were the best dressed kids since she worked at Yula’s. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Columbus, and she was a member of Naomi Circle. She was a good seamstress and a great cook. She made the best noodles and fried chicken.

Survivors include her son, Dennis (Judy) Beikman of Dallas; a granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn (Denny) Stripling of McKinney, Texas; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Stripling; a brother, Donald Hubbard of Jonesville; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Wayne Beikman; two sisters, Edna Tormoehlen and Dorothy Fox; and a brother, Orville Hubbard.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel at First United Methodist Church in Columbus with the Rev. Lisa Cottingham officiating.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Tuesday. Entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church.
