James Edward “Jimmy” Bedel, 72, of Seymour, passed away at 5:24 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Seymour Crossing.

Born Aug. 9, 1943, at Battle Creek, Michigan, he was the son of Earl and Rosary Eager Bedel, both of whom preceded him in death. On March 19, 1976, he married Emma Bedel, who survives.

Jimmy was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired in 2000 from Cummins Engine Co. after 33 years of service. He served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1969 and was a charter member of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Posse. He enjoyed riding his horses, playing with his dog, Rodeo, and spending time with his family and friends.

Other survivors include his son, Michael (Tina) Jaeger; sisters-in-law, Doris Bedel, Edith Beckman and Anne Gay; several cousins, Donald and Sharon Buckles, Eric Buckles, Dawn Eldridge and Elsie Fern Harris; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Steven Boling; an infant stepson, Anthony Boling; and a sister, Sara Bedel.

A mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. today at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with Father Dan Staublin officiating assisted by Deacon Mike East.

Burial will follow at Uniontown Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, and Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.

Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. until time of service today.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
