The Jackson County Public Library board of trustees approved a 2016-18 technology plan when the board met Nov. 16 at the Medora Library.

This year, the library has added six laptops and 10 iPads for a mobile technology lab through a grant; Playaway Launchpads (Android tablets) and Playaway Bookpacks; security cameras at the Crothersville and Medora libraries; and digital magazines to the OverDrive collection.

Items planned for purchase from 2016 to 2018 include self-checkouts for the Crothersville and Medora libraries and upgrades to wireless networks and infrastructure at all locations.

IT specialist Ben Boyer also gave the board an update on his job duties.

The board approved a resolution reducing this year’s budget by $50,000 in unspent allocations to fully fund the proposed 2016 budget and a list of surplus furniture and equipment to be donated to the Friends of the Library to sell at its Feb. 7 bi-monthly sale.

The nominating committee presented a slate of officers for 2016, which will be approved at the December meeting. The proposed officers are president, Susan Haskett; vice president, Josh Bartley; secretary, Connie Adams; assistant secretary, Bob Mahan; and treasurer, Mary Reed.
