Melissa Fay Persinger, 68, of Freetown passed away at 6:09 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born Sept. 2, 1947, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Wayne Spencer and Mary Elizabeth Bennett Spencer, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married to Robert Persinger, who survives.

Melissa graduated from Brownstown Central High School in 1967.  She worked at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour as a certified nursing assistant and for home health care, and she also was an advanced emergency medical technician in Jackson County. She was a member of Jamestown Ministries in Seymour. She loved to fish, can and go camping, and she also loved Boston terriers.

Survivors include four brothers, John Spencer of Indianapolis, Don Spencer of Avon, Marty Spencer of Danville and Bill Joyner of Indianapolis; and four sisters, Norma Butler of Indianapolis, Mary Viles of Rensselaer, Shirley Hartloff of Indianapolis and Jeanine Logston of Bloomington.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sandy Wyman.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Hague Funeral Home in Medora with the Rev. David Shelton officiating.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Sunday.

Burial will be at White River Valley Cemetery in Medora.
