Lucille E. Hopper Smith, 88, of Tampico, passed away at 12:24 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.

Born March 29, 1927, in Lexington, Lucille was raised in Scottsburg by George and Ina Strouse. Her mother, Goldie Jenings Hopper, passed away when Lucille was 2 years old. She was a 1946 Scottsburg High School graduate.

On Nov. 9, 1947, in Tampico, she married Earl L. Smith, who preceded her in death Oct. 5, 2013. They shared 65 years and 10 months together in holy matrimony.

Lucille was a member of Tampico Baptist Church, where she was an active member and BYF group leader. She helped Earl on the farm and loved to cook and sew. Earl and Lucille traveled abroad and to almost every U.S. state and went to Oklahoma from 1961 to 1962 to serve as house parents for Indian orphan children.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane (Eugene) Allen of Brownstown, and Martha (Claude) Morgan of Tampico; seven grandchildren, Cynthia (Bill) Collier of Westfield, Brian (Jo Ann) West of Crothersville, Patricia (Tom) Nolan of Paris Crossing, Claudia (Mark) Huelson of North Vernon, Jerry Morgan of Columbus, Steven Allen of Vallonia, and Tammy (Marty) Johnson of Medora; 16 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, David Smith, on Jan. 11, 2014, and two half brothers, George and Orval Hopper.

The. Rev. Jack Suits will conduct the funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Crothersville, with burial to follow at Crothersville Cemetery.

Friends may visit on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and after 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
