A North Vernon man faces two charges after crashing his vehicle into a residence Sunday afternoon.

Draden Box, 22, was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Level 6 felony; and inhaling toxic fumes, a Class B misdemeanor, as a result of the incident, which occurred about noon.

The investigation began when Indiana State Police Trooper Randel Miller responded to a crash in the 1400 block of West County Road 850S near Commiskey. Box was found near the vehicle and seemed disoriented, Miller said.

The initial investigation revealed Box allegedly passed out while driving his 1999 Chevrolet truck after inhaling intoxicating fumes from an aerosol can before the crash, Miller said.

After passing out, Box drove off the roadway before striking trees and a mobile home, police said. The truck then struck a large tree and came to a stop.

Miller arrested Box and transported him to the Jennings County Jail in Vernon, where he was being held on a $2,055 bond.

Miller was assisted at the scene by deputies Allen Ritchie and Kevin Hall with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department, Jennings County Emergency Medical Services and Jennings County fire departments.
