Eleven officers with Seymour Police Department recently participated in Operation Pullover Blitz 84 called “Safe Family Travel.”

The blitz was from Nov. 14 through Dec. 6, with the primary focus on seat belt violators and impaired driving, according to a news release from the department.

During the blitz, officers issued 151 citations, including 135 for seat belt violations and 127 warnings. They also made seven criminal arrests.

The officers worked 67.5 overtime hours, paid by a federal grant from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.

Seat belt surveys were conducted pre- and post-enforcement periods. Pre-enforcement seat belt surveys showed 94 percent seat belt compliance for drivers and 95 percent for front seat passengers. Post-enforcement surveys indicated an increase of 4 percent to 98 percent compliance for drivers and front seat passengers.

The department will participate in at least three more enforcement blitz periods in 2016.
