Ben Couch, 77, of Seymour passed away at 1:40 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, at Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour.

Born Dec. 20, 1938, in Perry County, Kentucky, he was the son of Leonard Couch and Retta Barger Smith, both of whom preceded him in death. On Feb. 20, 1960, in Crothersville, he married Patricia Ann Brishaber Couch, who survives.

Ben was a 1959 Austin High School graduate. He served in the United States Army from Nov. 1, 1961, to Oct. 31, 1963, when he was honorably discharged. He retired from Cummins Engine Co. after 37 years of service and was a former member of the American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles, both in Seymour. He enjoyed flea markets, finding bargains and selling his bargains at his booths he had at Traderbaker’s Flea Market in Seymour.

Other survivors include a daughter, April Lynn Deaton of Seymour; two grandchildren, Justin (Autumn Underwood) Couch of Brownstown and Christina (Matthew) Nelson of Salina, Kansas; a great-grandson, Gavin Couch of Brownstown; six siblings, Richard Couch of Austin, Junior Ray (Nancy) Couch of Scottsburg, Laverne (Gene) Crank of Lexington, Kentucky, Carolyn Sue (Charlie) Shook of Indianapolis, Katherine (Mark) Tucker of Richland Hills, Texas, and Dorothy Turner of Indianapolis.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sheila Fraley; and a brother, Ivan Couch.

Adams Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Crothersville handled cremation services.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 16 at Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall in Seymour.
