A shoplifting report at a local store resulted in two people being arrested on several charges.

About 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, Seymour Police Department officers were called to Dollar General Store in the Jackson Park Shopping Center in Seymour.

When officers Mathew Carver, Derrick Shelley and Jeremy Soliday arrived, they stopped Justin M. Baughman, 36, Seymour, and Kathy Key, 54, Columbus, as they attempted to leave the store’s parking lot.

Carver learned Baughman and Key had stolen multiple items from the store, police said. Baughman still had some of those items in his pockets, and several more items were recovered from the vehicle, police said.

After Baughman was placed under arrest for theft, officers searched him and found methamphetamine, marijuana and a glass methamphetamine pipe.

Shelley spoke with Key and learned the couple had just come from the Jennings County area. An investigation revealed that some of the property Key was in possession of had been reported as stolen from Wal-Mart in North Vernon, police said.

Baughman faces preliminary charges of theft, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

Key faces preliminary charges of theft and possession of stolen property. She also will be facing an additional charge of theft in North Vernon.

Both Baughman and Key were booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown. Baughman’s bond is $1,005, and Key’s bond is $2,005.
