Tribune staff reports

Brownstown will see a night filled with jazz Feb. 20.

Brownstown Fund for the Arts is hosting the event, featuring WindStrings4, a local jazz quartet, performing from 7 to 8 p.m., followed by The Quinn Sternberg Quartet from Indiana University.

The Quinn Sternberg Quartet consists of Quinn Sternberg, bass; Richard Baskin Jr., vocals and keyboards; Jay Tibbitts, drums; and Eric Juberg, saxophone.

The most notable performances of Sternberg have allowed him to share the stage with musicians such as Bobby McFerrin, Christina Bianco, Steve Houghton, Anders Astrand, The Caswell Sisters, Luke Gillespie, Pat Harbison and Tom Walsh, among others.

Sternberg is a senior in jazz studies at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music and performs locally with several musical acts.

Among those sharing the stage with Sternberg will be Tibbitts of Mission Viejo, California. Tibbitts began taking private lessons when he was young. In April 2013, he graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in jazz studies. He has performed in Synthesis, a jazz ensemble voted the top jazz ensemble in the nation by Downbeat Magazine in 2013.

During his three years with Synthesis, he recorded drums on two albums (“Flying High” and “The Day After Yesterday”) and completed extensive tours throughout Brazil and the United States. Currently, Tibbitts drums for Ryan Innes of NBC’s “The Voice,” The Groove Merchants and Parlor Hawk while attending IU pursing his master’s degree in jazz studies.

Baskin, a jazz vocalist, composer, arranger and educator from Saginaw, Michigan, will be providing the vocals and keyboard for the quartet. The graduate of jazz studies from Western Michigan University is currently a graduate student at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. He has performed with jazz artists Darmon Meader, Paquito D’Rivera and the New York Voices in venues including Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Blue Wisp (Cincinnati), The Apollo Theatre (New York City) and the Théâtre Antique (Vaison-la-Romaine, France).

The last member of the four-man group is Juberg of Indianapolis. He is a senior at IU, studying jazz saxophone. He has performed at numerous events, both public and private, around central Indiana.

Tickets are available in advance from Ewing Unique and Boutique and Family Drug in Brownstown or the night of the event for $15.
