Braves clinch outright MSC title
PEKIN
With Friday’s 65-36 victory at Eastern (Pekin), Brownstown Central won the Mid-Southern Conference title outright.
The Braves finished 9-0 in the conference and improved to 18-3 on the season. That gave head coach Dave Benter his ninth MSC title in his 18 years at the helm.
Brownstown jumped out to a double-digit lead through one quarter, leading 17-5.
The Braves led 38-21 at halftime before outscoring the host Musketeers 15-8 in the third quarter. Eastern was held to seven points in the final eight minutes.
Cam Shoemaker posted a double-double of 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to lead the Braves. Carson Lambring was next in scoring with 12 points, and Jacoby Shade tallied 10.
Robert Rodewig of Eastern (4-16, 2-7 MSC) led all scorers with 18 points.
The Braves outrebounded the Musketeers 44-20 on the night.
