NORTH VERNON

Jean F. Lawdermilt, 86, of North Vernon passed away at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born June 12, 1929, in Zenas, she was the daughter of Orville and Pauline Morris Garrett, both of whom preceded her in death. On Nov. 15, 1947, in Vernon, she married Dale R. Lawdermilt, who preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 2011.

Jean was a 1947 graduate of Hayden High School and a homemaker who worked on the family farm. She enjoyed working on handcrafts, traveling and spending time with her family.

Survivors include daughters, Dalene (Dale) Yates of North Vernon and Debra (Bruce) Batts of Columbus; grandchildren, Mike (April) Yates of Kingwood, West Virginia, Lori Yates of Durham of North Carolina and Joshua Batts of New York City; great-grandchildren, Cara, Rebekah, Elizabeth and John Yates, all of Kingwood, West Virginia; and a sister in-law, Doris Vinson of Butlerville.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Carl and Verne Garrett; and sisters, Frieda Partington and Kathryn Kilker.

Private services will be at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with the Pastor Michael Yates and Brother Ricky Persons officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.
