A traffic stop Saturday night led to the arrest of a man on drug charges on Seymour’s east side.

Francis Harvey Sweany, 38, North Vernon, faces preliminary charges of dealing in marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

He was being held without bond, pending his initial hearing, Monday morning in the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown.

Sweany’s arrest occurred after Seymour Officer Mike Payne stopped a pickup truck for a traffic violation at Tipton and Bush streets at 11:10 p.m. Saturday.

Payne reported he believed Sweany was involved in drug activity, leading to a search of the pickup.

During that search, police said they found methamphetamine, more than 47 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, drug packaging material and more than $800 in cash.

Cpl. Devin Cornwell assisted Payne in this investigation.
