Madison Persinger of Brownstown was named December 2015 Youth of the Month by the Brownstown Exchange Club during a recent meeting.
The Brownstown Central High School senior was introduced by club member and Youth of the Month committee chairman Kevin Gwin.
Persinger is a member of National Honor Society and currently is serving as secretary. She has been a member of the Science Club, Braves Against Drugs Club, Booster Club and Christian Club, and she was a 2015 D.A.R.E. Role Model.
She has been a member of the basketball team and was captain for three years, volleyball team and was captain for two years, track and field team for two years and tennis manager for one year. She received the best free throw shooter award for 2013-14.
She has been a member of the choir, was a dance captain and will be in this year’s musical, “Grease.”
Persinger said she plans to attend either Indiana University or Indiana University Southeast and major in elementary education and psychology.
Her parents, Matt and Vickie Persinger, attended the meeting.
Lute Lahrman of Brownstown was named January 2016 Youth of the Month by the Brownstown Exchange Club during a recent meeting.
The Brownstown Central High School senior was introduced by club member and Youth of the Month committee chairman Kevin Gwin.
Lahrman is a member of the National Honor Society and is serving as vice president. He is a four-year member of the math and science Academic Teams, and he is a member of Brownstown Teen Student Tutors and Letterman’s Club.
He was a member of the Band of Braves his freshman and sophomore years, playing the saxophone. He received the outstanding woodwind award in 2013 and outstanding musician award in 2014.
He is a member of the tennis team, receiving the most improved award in 2014 and most valuable player award in 2015, tying the school record for career wins, being named to the academic all-state team and all-county team in 2014 and 2015 and serving as an alternate for the all-star team in 2015.
His honors and awards include January Brave of the Month, VIP junior year, 2015 Hoosier Boys State delegate and 2014 Richard G. Lugar Symposium for Tomorrow’s Leaders attendee.
He is a member of Brownstown United Methodist Church, where he currently serves as youth representative to the administrative board, volunteers as liturgist and has assisted with the community lunch program and vacation Bible school.
He coordinated a community service project to clean up and restore an old township cemetery located on the family’s farm and is pursuing its further restoration.
Lahrman said he plans to attend either Purdue University or Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and major in biomedical engineering.
His parents, Marc and Angie Lahrman, attended the meeting.
Brownstown Exchange Club meets at 7 a.m. Tuesdays at Michie’s Diner, 216 W. Commerce St., Brownstown. Visitors are welcome.
The club plans to conduct its annual spring pancake breakfast from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. March 5 in the cafeteria at Brownstown Central High School. Discounted tickets are available from any club member.
The club is conducting a processed whole hog raffle with the winning name to be drawn at the breakfast. Tickets are available from any club member, and you do not have to be present to win.
