Charlotte Pearl “Lottie” Mitchell, 103, of Seymour passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at Covered Bridge Health Campus.

Born April 27, 1912, in Franklin, she was the daughter of General and Sarah Montgomery Vardiman, both of whom preceded her in death. In April of 1930, she married Claude Mitchell, who preceded her in death in 1962.

Lottie was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella. She had been employed as a nurse’s aide at Schneck Medical Center for many years. She enjoyed baseball and was a Chicago Cubs fan.

At age 101, the staff of Covered Bridge arranged for Lottie the great honor of throwing the first pitch at a Seymour High School baseball game. She was always grateful to the Seymour High School athletics department, Seymour baseball team and coach Jeremy Richey for giving her this privilege.

Survivors include her daughter, Diana Stewart; sons, Claude Duane (Susan) Mitchell Sr. and Michael Mitchell; four grandchildren, Natalie (Jim) Ercole, Michael (Sara) Mitchell Jr., Mark (Angela) Mitchell and Jennifer Mitchell; and nine great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Douglas Mitchell; two sisters; two brothers; a grandson, Claude Duane Mitchell Jr.; and son-in-law, Tom Stewart.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Voss Chapel and from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the church. A rosary service will be at 2:45 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
