Gas leak reported in Brownstown

A contractor’s accidental rupture of a gas main Friday forced police to evacuate a one-block area in Brownstown briefly.

Police Chief Tom Hanner said the rupture of the 2-inch line occurred at about noon Friday in an area behind 303 Jodi Drive on the town’s north west side.

Police and other emergency personnel blocked off traffic for about 45 minutes in the area of Jodi and Kelly drives until workers with Midwest Natural Gas could stop the leak and begin repairs, Hanner said.

He said people living in homes adjacent to the residence at 303 Jodi Drive also were evacuated as recommended by the Midwest officials.
