Mayor recognizes foster grandparents

Seymour Mayor Craig Luedeman recognized the 22 volunteers in the Foster Grandparent Program at schools in the area for National Service Day on Tuesday.

In a proclamation honoring those volunteers, Luedeman said they contributed 20,630 hours tutoring and mentoring in the public and private schools and the Head Start Program during the school year.

Foster Grandparents mentor at Margaret R. Brown, Cortland, Emerson, Seymour-Jackson and Seymour-Redding elementary schools, Jackson County Head Start, Seymour Christian Academy and St. Ambrose Catholic School.

Luedeman said he is encouraging residents to recognize the positive impact of national service in the city and to thank those who serve and find ways to give back to their communities.
