Election Q&A: Treasurer Race Maria Fisher

0

What do you see as the primary role of the treasurer?

The county treasurer is the custodian of all money belonging to the county. The treasurer is responsible for the collection of property taxes and the tax sale of real estate as a result of delinquent taxes. Other duties include receiving distributions of local income and other taxes that are collected by the state. The treasurer along with the auditor distribute these taxes to government entities in the county.

Why do you want to run for treasurer?

I am a lifelong resident of Jackson County and take great pride in this awesome community I proudly call home. I am currently the county treasurer and have enjoyed learning the job and would enjoy doing the job if elected for another term. It is an honor serving the taxpayers and voters of Jackson County.

Why do you think you’re the best candidate for the job?

I understand the duties this office is required to perform and maintain on behalf of our county and taxpayers. This office works closely with the auditor and assessor offices. This working relationship and teamwork is crucial.

If elected, what part of the job do you look forward to the most?

The one-on-one relationship with our residents and taxpayers. Not all county offices require this personal service. I look forward to and will consider it a privilege to continue serving Jackson County with the reliability they can count on.
