Election Q&A: Treasurer Race Roger Hurt

0

What do you see as the primary role of the treasurer?

The role of this office is to maintain the county checking accounts, along with investing available county funds to earn the highest returns. While these functions are important, receiving information from the other county offices and preparing the issuance of tax statements are the most concerning. With the assessment values and tax rates changing on property from year to year, it is imperative for this office to process this information in a professional and timely manner. This will give the taxpayer sufficient time to adjust on any changes they receive. The team/staff that I implement will be a vital component to achieve this role.

Why do you want to run for treasurer?

I want to assemble a team/staff of professionals who can provide trust, customer service and respect to the taxpayer because taxpayers are the very core to the functions of county funding.

Why do you think you’re the best candidate for the job?

I bring with me more than 30 years of experience in bookkeeping, quality control on investments and public trust that I have used daily in establishing a successful private construction company. I also bring along the work ethic required to maintain public respect and accountability.

If elected, what part of the job do you look forward to the most?

I am looking forward to working all aspects of this department. I look forward to creating a professional and personable office along with being hands-on with the public to show the taxpayer trust and respect and to provide effective policies and operating procedures.
