Election Q & A Coroner Race: Shane Collier

0

What do you see as the primary role of coroner?

The position of coroner is to determine the cause of death. Duties always include determining the cause, time and manner of death. The major role is being able to investigate and determine the cause of an individual’s death while working with many other agencies.

Why do you want to run for the position?

I’m currently an emergency medical technician and a reserve police officer. I love the investigative parts of both law enforcement as well as medical. The coroner’s position is putting both of these fields together as one. To be able to investigate a death and bring closure to the family would be a great feeling. I have lived in Jackson County most of my life, and I know many people here, so therefore, I would treat every case as if it were someone part of my family.

Why do you think you’re the best candidate for the job?

My experience in both the medical field and law enforcement. I’ve been an EMT for five years and a reserve police officer for three years.

If elected, what part of the job do you look forward to the most?

I look forward to the investigative part of being coroner and using the same investigatory skills of a police officer or detective.
