Home Products International Inc. recently received the Gold Safety Award from Liberty Mutual Insurance for achievements accomplished in 2015.

The award is based on industry data, requiring the Seymour-based company to have a safety record exceeding 80 percent of the industry standard for recordable and lost time accidents.

Ed Hoffman of Liberty Mutual Insurance presented the award March 29 to the entire Home Products International team, including Tom Day, director of operations for the company’s facilities at Seymour.

Day said the associates at the only ironing board factory in the United States have dedicated themselves to making safety a way of life and have focused that drive to improve safety throughout the entire HPI organization.

He said those employees are the firm’s greatest asset.

“We need to make sure they work safe so they can go home safe to be with their families,” he said.

The company has been producing ironing boards in Seymour since 1942.
