Relay For Life to celebrate cancer survivors

The American Cancer Society invites all cancer survivors to the 2016 Relay For Life Survivor Celebration, One Step Forward … Go! Fight! Cure!, at 5:30 p.m. May 7 at The Point’s fellowship hall in Seymour.

Doors open at 4:45 pm. Admission for survivors is free, and it’s $5 for each guest. Survivors must RSVP by April 27 to Jan Engel at jan [email protected] or by calling 812-522-1612.

Cancer survivors also are invited to participate in the survivor lap immediately following the opening ceremonies of the “Go! Fight! Cure!” Relay For Life of Jackson County at 6 p.m. May 20 at Seymour Middle School’s track.

Survivors may pick up an official Relay For Life survivor T-shirt at the survivor dinner or at the track after 5:30 p.m. May 20. All family members, friends and caregivers are invited to join survivors on the second lap. Everyone is invited to stay for dinner and other activities.

The luminaria ceremony in honor and memory of people who have or had cancer begins at 9:30 p.m. The Relay For Life continues until the closing ceremonies that begin at 11 p.m.

Invitations to the survivor celebration were mailed; however, interested survivors may contact Engel.

A new team, The CURELeaders, was formed for cancer survivors and caregivers to join to receive event information. Anyone interested in joining the team may do so online at relayforlife.org/jackson countyin or by contacting Julia Aker at 812-216-2109.
