Alzheimer’s caregiver program planned

If you have a family member who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia disorder, Schneck Medical Center and the Alzheimer’s Association invite you to an education program on understanding and responding to dementia-related behavior.

The program will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Schneck Auditorium, just inside the visitors’ entrance at Schneck, 411 W. Tipton St. in Seymour. Refreshments will be served.

Behavior is a powerful form of communication and is one of the primary ways for people with dementia to communicate their needs and feelings as the ability to use language is lost, according to a news release.

Some behaviors, however, can present real challenges for caregivers to manage. The program is designed to help family members decode behavioral messages, identify common behavior triggers and learn strategies to help intervene with some of the most common behavioral challenges of Alzheimer’s disease.

For information or to register, call the Alzheimer’s Association at 800-272-3900.
