Johnie G. Benge, 81, of Medora, died unexpectedly at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.
Born Sept. 12, 1934, in Clay County, Kentucky, he was the son of Joseph Benge and Nancy Jane Howard Benge, both of whom preceded him in death. In 1953, he married Elizabeth Ann Plummer, who preceded him in death Dec. 11, 2014.
Johnie lived most of his life in Jackson County. He was a graduate of Vallonia High School. He attended Uniontown Baptist Church and was a self-employed logger. He was member of the Medora Coon Hunters Club. He mostly enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include four children, Irvin Lee (Jill) Benge of Crothersville, Martie Benge (Carl) Brassine of Medora, William C. (Kelly) Dillard of Vallonia and Natasha Jane Benge of Bedford; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Beside his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Jane Benge; five brothers; and three sisters.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home in Vallonia, with Irvin Benge officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1 p.m. until time of service Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Vallonia Cemetery.
