William E. Gallentine, 83, of Seymour passed away Friday, April 22, 2016, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.

Born June 19, 1932, in Sterling, Illinois, he was the son of Clifford F. and Loraine M. Hurley Gallentine, both of whom preceded him in death. On May 24, 1957, in Clinton, Iowa, he married Lorraine J. Hugunin.

Bill graduated from Erie High School in Erie, Illinois, in 1950. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. Bill worked for Ralston-Purina Corp. in Clinton, Iowa, for 25 years until retiring in 1993.

In 1996, he and his wife moved to Seymour, where he did odd jobs to stay busy. Bill retired again in 2015 from Poynter automotive after five years as a driver. Bill always had to stay busy, so work and gardening were his hobbies.

He was a member of the Christ Church Episcopal in Madison and a past member of the American Legion in Albany, Illinois.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Lorraine; son, Bill (Charlotte) Gallentine; daughter, Joyce Gale Neikirk; three grandchildren, Jessica (Kevin) Fritz, Randy Gallentine and Jennifer Gallentine; three great-grandchildren, Julian, Hayliegh and Lucian Fritz; and siblings, Dorothy Smith, Marilyn Coffey, Joseph Gallentine and James (Melissa) Gallentine.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Gallentine.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel in Seymour. Cremation rites will follow Monday.
