Food drive helping fuel food pantries

Area United Methodist churches plan to conduct a food drive to boost donations to food pantries.

All donations raised through the second annual drive, called e-Race Hunger, will go to local food pantries. It starts Saturday and runs through May 30.

The e-Race Hunger name is in keeping with the race themes of the Kentucky Derby and the Indianapolis 500.

In 2015, donations went to Love Chapel in Columbus, Anchor House Family Assistance Center and Community Provisions of Jackson County Inc. in Seymour, Crothersville Food Bank in Crothersville and Good Samaritan Food Pantry in North Vernon. Donations will stay in the community where they are collected.

Food pantry donations often fall low in the spring and summer, yet hunger is a year-round problem, according to a news release from TEAM REACH, a cluster of United Methodist churches in the area.

For information or to make a nonperishable food or monetary donation, contact your local United Methodist church.
