Cougars forfeit three games

The Trinity Lutheran softball team has forfeited three games this season because of a coaching decision to let an ineligible player from the Cougars participate in games, school officials said.

Those games included one against Lanesville on April 16 and the second game of a doubleheader Saturday against New Washington. The third occurred Monday against Oldenburg Academy at home. All three games were played as scheduled.

Coaches from both teams decided prior to the games that Trinity would forfeit should the ineligible player from the Cougars play, Trinity athletics director Aaron Rudzinski said.

He said the Cougars’ roster features just two pitchers, one of them being an ineligible athlete. The girl transferred to Trinity from Seymour at the beginning of the school year.

The ineligible player is only allowed to play in junior varsity contests because of transferring, according to IHSAA regulations. Trinity Lutheran does not have a junior varsity team.
