Theta Omega chapter of Phi Beta Psi sorority crowned Emma Wood as queen of its annual cancer dance Feb. 6 at Pewter Hall in Brownstown.

Wood is a senior at Seymour High School and is the daughter of Bob and Sharon Wood. She was one of six local high school seniors who participated in the penny-a-vote fundraiser.

The combined total raised by the queen candidates was slightly more than $9,600 and will be sent to the sorority’s national project of cancer research.

The other candidates and their escorts for the dance were Abigail Currao and Jacob Sipes, Alyssa Goen and Griffin Sciarra, Baylee Robinson and Johnny Rennekamp, Emma Wood and Noah Bullard, Macey Chase and Jackson Morris, and Katie Hodge and Cameron Deppen.

At the event, the sorority also raffled off a sweetheart basket full of products and gift certificates to raise money to assist with expenses for a local community member battling cancer. The basket raised $1,860. The winning ticket was held by Darren Collett.

The Third Generation Band performed during the event.
