Former Owl heading to NAIA World Series

The Marian University softball team defeated Lindsey Wilson last week 2-1 to earn a trip to Sioux City, Iowa for the 36th Annual NAIA World Series.

Junior Logan Personett of Seymour has started 24 games for the Knights this season.

Personett scored on a hit to left-center by sophomore Mackenzie Reeder against Lindsey Wilson.

The tournament will be May 27 through June 2 at the Elizabeth & Irving Jensen Softball Complex.

The No. 8 Knights will take on ninth-seeded Williams Baptist (Arkansas) at 1 p.m. CST on May 27.

The Knights’ record now stands at 47-10.

Area golfer 7th at Division II championship

The University of Indianapolis women’s golf team finished as runner-up Saturday at the NCAA Division II National Championship in Aurora, Colorado.

Sophomore Paxton DeHaven of Seymour tied for seventh at the tournament, with a 4-day total of 294 (77-73-70-74).

DeHaven capped her tournament with a two-over 74, punctuated by a birdie on the final hole.

The Greyhounds, who were Division II champions last season, made their return trip to nationals after posting their fifth-straight Great Lakes Valley Conference and regional championships.

Bats to host ‘Southern Indiana Night’

The Louisville Bats will host a Southern Indiana Night when they take on the Pawtucket Red Sox on June 17 at Louisville Slugger Field.

Tickets are $7 if purchased in advance.

Festivities will include postgame fireworks, special in-game giveaways and other promotions.
