Dionicio Castelan, 81, of Seymour passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at IU Health Methodist Hospital.

Born April 8, 1935, in Mexico, he was the son of Dolores and Arcadia Castelan, both of whom preceded him in death. On Nov. 14, 1953, he married Teresa, who survives.

Dionicio served for many years as a Mexican Rural Commander before traveling to America, where he became a naturalized citizen in May 2004.

Other survivors include daughters, Maria Castelan, Elia Castelan Bailey, Estela Castelan Dye, Irma Castelan, Sonia Castelan, Elizabeth Castelan and Anel Castelan; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Irene Castelan; and brother, Simon Castelan.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Serafin Sanchez officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday.
