All Thumbs Garden Club May Meeting

All Thumbs Garden Club’s work day at Southern Indiana Center for the Arts followed the May meeting.

Under the direction of committee chairwoman Jane Lucas, members planted flowers in large pots on the porch, replanted a rose bush, trimmed shrubbery and weeded.

One pot is painted blue and gold and planted with flowers in those colors to honor Indiana’s bicentennial.

Indiana garden clubs are encouraging the planting of blue and gold flowers in public places this year for the state’s 200th birthday. Local businesses have been asked by All Thumbs members to do this.

During the business meeting, Suzi Judd received the Glad you Came Gift, and she presented new yearbooks to all members.

President Nancy Fleming and Jeanne Morris gave a report about The Garden Club of Indiana’s annual convention in April at McCormick’s Creek State Park. Five club members attended the convention.

At the scholarship luncheon, 20 horticulture students from Ball State and Purdue universities were introduced and told of their employment plans. Each thanked the garden clubs for their financial support.

Officers elected for 2016-17 are Fleming, president; Ann Windley, vice president; Laurie Windley, secretary; and Millie Unterseher, treasurer.

Mary Miller and Donna Moore were hostesses for the day.
