Wilma L. Benter, 87, of Brownstown, passed away at 1:37 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Columbus Regional Health.

Born Aug. 15, 1928, in rural Brownstown, she was the daughter of Albert G. and Matilda “Tillie” Hackman Eggersman, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Harold A. Benter on Aug. 10, 1947, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers. He preceded her in death Jan. 2, 2006.

Wilma was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. She had worked for Brownstown school corporation in the cafeteria but dedicated her life to her family. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda O’Haver and Sonya Spray; two grandsons, Tyson (Rachel) O’Haver and Blake (Megan) O’Haver; three great-grandchildren, Elaina, Stephanie and Bryndal; and two sisters, Dorothy Otte Simmons and Maxine Newcomb.

Besides her parents and husband of almost 60 years, she was preceded in death by her brother, Willard Eggersman; two sisters, Mildred Thiele and Geneva Hoene; and an infant brother.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ralph Blomenberg, the Rev. Philip Bloch, the Rev. James Rodriguez and Vicar Alex Hoffmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at Brownstown Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Voss Chapel and from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church.
