James Albert Lucas, 95, formerly of Brownstown, passed away Monday, June 6, 2016, in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Born Oct. 6, 1925, he was the son of Charles W. Lucas and Ida Lee McKain Lucas, both of whom preceded him in death. In 1947, he married Georgia Lee Hamer, who survives.

He graduated from Brownstown Central High School in 1943 and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving from October 1943 through October 1945 as a ball turret gunner on a B17 Flying Fortress. He participated in five campaigns flying over Germany and Italy and earning the rank of staff sergeant.

He had a successful career as a salesman for electric distributors. 

Besides his wife of 68 years, survivors include three children, John (Lucy) Lucas of Sparta, Tennessee, Jill Lucas of Fairburn, Georgia; and Jacqueline Lucas of Lawrenceville, Georgia; two sisters, Charlotte Dickinson and Virginia Elstrod; two grandsons; a great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hamer Family Cemetery, Spring Mill State Park, Mitchell.
