Merida “Mike” Rice,  80, of Seymour, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016, at Seymour.

Born April 13, 1936, in Perry County, Kentucky, he was the son of Jeff and Jetta Couch Rice, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Colleen Snow Rice, who preceded him in death in 2004.

Merida served in U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force and World War II. He retired from Arvin Industries, Cummins Engine Co. and the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Mike was a hard-working, loving and caring husband, grandfather and brother. He was a championship coon hunter and a huge IU and Pacers fan.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda (Glenn) Henry; granddaughter, Shannon Mazur; great-grandchildren, Hailee (Travis) Huff, Devin Mazur and Alexis Mazur; great-great-granddaughter, Quinnlee Lou Ann Huff; brothers, Marion (Dorothy) Rice and Bob Rice; sisters, Francis Rice, Carrie Fischer and Kathryn “Pat” Rice; and nieces and nephews

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four siblings and a grandson-in-law, Paul Mazur.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Stewart & Hoagland Funeral Home, Scottsburg, with Gary Dyer officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery in Seymour with graveside military honors by Seymour Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Monday.

Memorials may be given to Schneck Hospice or Alzheimer Association.
