As the hot sun shined down on Purdue University on June 13 through 16 during the 87th annual Indiana FFA State Convention, five Crothersville FFA members amplified their convention experience through various career development events and educational sessions.

The chapter received multiple awards, including fifth place Living to Serve Community Initiative, fourth place Living to Serve Safety Initiative, third place Living to Serve Food Security Initiative and Bronze Emblem National Chapter.

Members also competed in state career development events, were honored for receiving fourth in the state for the floriculture career development events and received their Hoosier Degree.

“The Hoosier Degree is the highest degree that can be bestowed by the Indiana FFA Association,” Crothersville FFA adviser Linda Begley said. “It is a huge honor to receive this because only about 10 percent of the members in the state receive this honor.”

Individual awards and recognitions include Kalynda Hoevener, chapter delegate; Noah Hoskins, chapter delegate; Madison Isenhower, fourth place Plant and Soil Science Demonstration, fourth place Multimedia Scrapbook CDE, participant in Traditional Scrapbook CDE and Hoosier Degree recipient; Deven Lemen, fourth place Plant and Soil Science Demonstration, fourth place Multimedia Scrapbook CDE, participant in Traditional Scrapbook CDE and Hoosier Degree recipient; and Derrick Maxie, six-year state choir participant and Hoosier Degree recipient.
