The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League recently met at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour.

President Lois Byrkett welcomed everyone to the meeting and opened with a short devotion.

Secretary Janis Mundt read a note from Lutheran World Relief thanking the group for the $630 donation that will be used to buy piglets to give to families to use for income.

Treasurer Bonnie Raabe reported the “Mile of Pennies” for mission collection is at $612.04 and will continue until the goal of $840.80 is reached.

The Indiana District Convention was June 24 through 26 at the Courtyard, and Mundt and Sharon Scott were chosen as delegates and Jan Behrens and Byrkett as alternates. An in-gathering for Community Provisions of Jackson County Inc. was to be taken, and food and hygiene were to be collected.

Behrens, Jeannie Fenneberg and Raabe distributed a list of proposed mission projects for the next few months. The list was approved, and for July, the group will collect new socks and underwear for boys and girls and given to the Jackson County Clothing Center before school starts. October will be LWML Sunday with a collection from the congregation for mites for missions and November a collection of mittens, gloves, scarfs, hats and earmuffs for the clothing center.

Two new officers were installed by Byrkett — Adrene Wunder as vice president and Sharon Klakamp as treasurer. The outgoing officers were thanked for their service, and the new officers were thanked for accepting their positions.

Mites were collected and a closing devotion, “Today, Be Strong in Christ” based on Ephesians 6:10, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might,” was read by Byrkett.

Hostesses Rosalie Grabinski and Fennenberg served chicken salad sandwiches and desserts at the close of the meeting.

The next meeting will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lutheran Community Home. The next meeting at Immanuel will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 9. It will be a pitch-in salad supper with members encouraged to bring a guest.
