Loyal Devoir Society June Meeting

The Loyal Devoir Society of Central Christian Church in Seymour met June 28 with 16 members in attendance.

Lois Gueter gave devotions on “Love” from 1 Corinthians, Chapter 13.

President Lucy Dembek introduced Amy Artis, an outreach specialist who works for the attorney general in Indiana covering 15 to 20 counties. She gave a talk on ways people can protect themselves from scammers. She talked about several instances where people were tricked into giving money to those people.

Handouts were given out to explain how to place a security freeze on your credit reports and reducing the number of credit cards you have. The top scam in Indiana is the IRS, where there were 1,800 complaints and six victims.

Dembek thanked Group 2 for the decorations and refreshments.

The minutes and treasurer’s reports were read and approved.

Board representative Loretta Riehl said the bylaws committee did not set a date to present the bylaws to the congregation.

Carolyn Bruce reported on the sick.

Barb Bentley suggested the group consider D’s Cafe, Batar or Woodstock Grill for options for the Christmas dinner.

A motion was made to give a donation to the Rock’n Ready backpacks for five backpacks with the maximum of $100. The motion passed.

There will be no July meeting. The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. August 23 at the Youth House and will include a picnic.

The meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction.
